While making this piece, I found myself reflecting on my own desire to gather and hold onto things from nature, and on the tension between preserving a fragment of nature and making it our own, at a time when so much of the natural world feels increasingly fragile and at risk of slipping away.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"\u003e-\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"\u003eWhen considering work for \u003cem\u003eHearts over Carats\u003c\/em\u003e, my thoughts immediately turned to my practice and why I make jewellery. More often than not, the jewellery I make for others is a vessel for something precious, rather than being the precious item in itself. It might hold an idea, a memory, or a literal fragment of something treasured. I see jewellery as a kind of protective armour around these things, holding them safe and carrying their meaning forward.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"\u003eI don't often make jewellery for myself, but for this exhibition I am sharing some things that are incredibly precious to me, and have created vessels to carry them forward.
