Salvaged Vintage Hand Pump 'REGA' Bug Sprayer - Copper, Brass & Timber; Hand Engraved.
Recognising the value and the true cost of forgotten and obsolete things. This salvaged, restored and hand engraved vessel depicts the view from Iron Blow Lookout (towards the former site of the Mt Lyell Copper and Gold mine in Western Tasmania) on it's worn brass and timber handle. The copper body depicts some of Tasmania’s most well known Flora & Fauna - many of them rare, threatened, endangered or extinct as a result of human impact.
Some of the included engravings are:
Acacia melanoxylon - Blackwood
Eucalyptus globulus subs globulus - Tasmanian Blue GumNothofagus gunni - Fagus
Tyto novaehollandiae castanops - Tasmanian Masked Owl
Neophema chrysogaster - Orange-bellied Parrot
Dicksonia antarctica - Soft Tree Fern
Eucryphia lucida - Leatherwood
Lathamus discolor - Swift Parrot
Banksia marginata - Silver Banksia
Thylacine - Tasmanian Tiger
That we continue to destroy our natural environment in the quest for new materials to create products that may soon become obsolete, haunts me. To value and care for what we have is to help protect what is precious - before it is gone.
