What is FIND Collective?

FIND Contemporary Jewellery Collective is an artist-run jewellery gallery that has operated continuously since 2002 within Salamanca Arts Centre in Hobart, Tasmania.

The gallery is staffed and run by twelve local designer-makers who take pride and delight in meeting visitors and locals alike, sharing their work and the stories and inspiration behind it.

As a collective, the members share responsibility for staffing and running the gallery, while each maintains their own individual jewellery practice and distinctive approach to making.

What does FIND mean?

FIND stands for Friends in Design, reflecting the collective of jewellers who work together to support one another in their practices.

Members share the responsibilities of running and staffing the gallery, creating a space where they can collectively showcase and sell their work directly to the public.

What kind of jewellery will I find at FIND Collective?

FIND Collective showcases contemporary jewellery designed and handmade in Tasmania by twelve local jewellers, silversmiths and goldsmiths.

Our designer-makers work with a diverse range of precious, semi-precious and non-precious materials, including Silver, Gold, gemstones, Aluminium, Titanium, wood and other conventional and experimental materials.

The work is equally diverse, ranging from refined everyday jewellery through to sculptural and one-of-a-kind pieces. Many works are influenced by Tasmania's distinctive land, sea, flora and fauna, while each jeweller brings their own ideas, materials and techniques to their practice.

Is all of the jewellery made by FIND Collective members?

The jewellery at FIND Collective is designed and handmade by our individual designer-makers, each of whom maintains their own independent jewellery practice.

Because FIND Collective is an artist-run gallery, the person welcoming you into the space will usually be one of the jewellers whose work is on display. This gives visitors the opportunity to meet the makers and learn more about the materials, techniques and ideas behind the work.

FIND Collective also provides opportunities for selected emerging Tasmanian jewellers to exhibit and sell work through its Emerging Jewellers Program.

How does FIND Collective support the Tasmanian jewellery community?

FIND Collective has a long history of supporting Tasmania's jewellery community alongside operating the gallery.

Initiatives have included bursaries, prizes, mentorship and the Emerging Jewellers Program, which provides early-career jewellers with opportunities to display and sell their work and to gain experience within a working contemporary jewellery gallery.

FIND Collective has also presented group exhibitions by its members, while individual members regularly participate in group and solo exhibitions at state and national levels.

Who are the jewellers at FIND Collective?

FIND Collective is made up of twelve Tasmanian designer-makers with diverse creative practices, skills and backgrounds.

All members have formal jewellery training, with some additionally qualified in gemmology. Members also bring experience and tertiary qualifications from a wide range of other fields, including marine science, social sciences and engineering.

This diversity of knowledge and experience contributes to the broad range of materials, techniques, ideas and styles represented within the gallery.

What makes FIND Collective different from a traditional jewellery store?

FIND Collective is both a retail gallery and an artist-run collective. Rather than representing a single jewellery brand or style, the gallery brings together the work of twelve independent Tasmanian designer-makers.

Each jeweller develops and makes their own work, resulting in a collection that is varied in material, technique, scale and approach. Because the gallery is staffed by its members, visitors can also speak directly with practising jewellers about the work, materials and making processes.

Does FIND Collective exhibit contemporary jewellery as well as sell it?

Yes. FIND Collective has presented a number of group exhibitions featuring work by its members, exploring contemporary jewellery beyond the day-to-day retail gallery.

Individual FIND members also participate in exhibitions and arts projects throughout Tasmania and nationally, alongside maintaining their own jewellery practices.

Is FIND Collective jewellery inclusive?

Absolutely. Everyone is welcome at FIND Collective, and our jewellery can be worn by anyone, however they choose.

With twelve individual makers and a wide range of styles, materials, sizes and forms represented in the gallery, we encourage people to choose jewellery according to what they connect with rather than traditional ideas about who a particular piece is intended for.

What is FIND Collective’s returns and exchange policy?

We respect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

If there is a problem with your purchase, please contact FIND Collective with the details so that we can begin the appropriate refund, repair or exchange process.

For faulty products, the appropriate remedy will depend on the nature of the fault and your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

For a change of style, FIND offers an exchange for another piece by the same artist when the original piece is unworn and in its original condition. Please contact us within two weeks of receiving your purchase.

Exchanges for size may not always be possible, particularly for one-of-a-kind designs. Where resizing is possible, an additional fee may apply.

For an approved online return, the item must be returned promptly and in its original, unworn condition. Please send accepted returns within five business days of receiving return approval. We recommend using a tracked and insured postal service, as returned goods remain your responsibility until they reach FIND.

Customers are responsible for shipping and re-shipping costs associated with change-of-mind or style exchanges. Cash on Delivery returns cannot be accepted.

Approved refunds or exchanges will usually be processed within five days of the returned item being received. Depending on your financial institution, refunds may then take an additional three to five working days to appear in your account.

Custom and commissioned jewellery is arranged directly with the individual artist, and the terms applying to these orders will be discussed with you when the work is commissioned.

What happens if my jewellery is faulty or needs a repair?

If you believe your jewellery has a fault, please contact FIND Collective with details of the problem so that the piece can be assessed.

Where a product is confirmed to have a fault, your rights to a repair, replacement or refund are protected under Australian Consumer Law. Reasonable return postage costs for a confirmed faulty item will also be reimbursed where applicable.

Repairs required as a result of wear, accidental damage or other non-manufacturing issues are assessed individually and may incur a fee. Shipping and re-shipping costs may also apply to these repairs.

What happens if my parcel is lost or damaged in transit?

All Australian online orders are sent with Australia Post tracking and signature on delivery.

If your parcel does not arrive or arrives damaged, please contact FIND Collective so that we can investigate the delivery with Australia Post and determine the appropriate next steps.

We recommend checking your tracking information first, but please let us know if there appears to be a problem with your delivery.
