What is precious to me is the skill I have worked so hard to nurture, the years of learning, experimenting and making that shape every piece of jewellery I create.

A painting’s worth cannot be measured by the cost of its paint and canvas. Jewellery deserves that same consideration: recognition of the artistry, imagination and skilled hands that bring it into being.

In this work, I bring together precious and semiprecious materials, incorporating ants and rutilated quartz as a nod to wattle. These elements invite a closer look at what we notice, what we overlook and what we choose to value.

I don’t always get it right. Sometimes I finish a piece and feel I’ve hit the mark; other times, it hasn’t become what I imagined. Both are part of the creative process. Each attempt teaches me something and opens up possibilities for the next.

For Hearts Over Carats, I celebrate the value we create through making. Material is a starting point. Through curiosity, play and craftsmanship, it becomes something expressive, unexpected and worthy of attention. The preciousness lies as much in that transformation as in the finished piece.
