It’s a little strange to call my collection “Grounded”, as the one flash of colour is anything but. The brilliant orange sapphire, with all the renowned hardness and beauty of sapphires extracted from deep in the earth, was in fact created in a far less environmentally damaging way, in a laboratory. So, its perfection and beauty is relatively guilt-free. The Killiecrankie diamond (technically, a topaz) came from a lovely white sand beach on beautiful Flinders Island, and the gumnuts, leaves and pinecones all of course have their origins way above ground. But we’ve all been a bit grounded in recent times, and with the cacophony of drama in the world around us, it seems like a good time to be reminded of our relationship and connection to the earth.

FIND Contemporary Jewellery Collective acknowledges our gallery within the Salamanca Arts Centre stands on the country of the palawa people. We recognise that first nations people across Australia never ceded sovereignty, and we deeply respect their connections to land, sea and community.

We acknowledge the palawa people as the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of lutruwita (Tasmania). We respect and admire their continuing culture, strength, and history of creating and making on this land for tens of thousands of years.
